Happy Easter! Here's a family favorite recipe that we are in fact making this morning before we head to church and I want to share it with you. Prepare to be amazed. This is so delicious, so fattening that I try to make it on special occasions only (pretty much every Saturday and Sunday have become a special occasions in this house). The recipe is from The Pioneer Woman and once you make it, I think you will agree that it's a keeper. This is REAL cinnamon toast.
2 sticks of butter, softened
1 cup (or more) of sugar
3 tsp. cinnamon
3 tsp. Mexican vanilla (becasue hey, if you're going to consume this volume of calories, go all-in)
6 - 8 slices of bread, any kind will do
Preheat the oven to 350. Place the butter in a deep bowl and schmush it up with a fork. Add the sugar, cinnamon and vanilla and schmush until well blended. Spread this mixture onto bread making sure to spread it all the way to the edges so they don't burn. Place slices on a cookie sheet and in the oven for 10 minutes. All that buttery deliciousness is going to sink right down into the bread. Switch the oven to broil and watch it closely now, 2 minutes is about all you need for the top to brown, bubble and crisp up. Let cool for a few minutes before you dig in ... if you can wait that long.
